1000h, I finished my exam and it's now time to go to Batopik's first official gig. Yes, you read it right. It's our first official gig! First, a little bit of an introduction... Batopik (the band), if I'm not mistaken was formed during the first term of our second year stay at DLSU. And the members are: Frytz Razal - our ever so magnificent songer, Kester Noveno - the splendid and lofty lead guitarist, JP "chick hunter" Acuña - his majesty on the rhythm guitar, Geric Genson - the brilliant and gleaming bassist of the band and yours truly, Loyvin Ramirez - the sooper shy drummer (yun lang?). Ahaha. (Nga pala, Renz Sui - the illustrious and prominent recruit of the band.) Pucha, ang hirap isipin ng mga adjectives na yan... Hehehe. So moving on... JP told us that his father wants us to perform at a christmas party in an office somewhere in North Avenue. We all agreed and decided to give it a try.
How'd we get there? We first took the LRT up to EDSA-Taft station and moved to the MRT station. Having to get aboard the train on the first station, we had no problems taking a seat. That was noontime and our tummies are kicking the hell out of us. We didn't have the time to take our lunch. (For the love of the band!) Travel time was about 30 minutes and during that span, my sick imagination together with my companions' made up a lot of things. Syempre ba naman, walang magawa sa loob ng tren at gutom pa kami. We joked about the names of the stations and made up a story out of it. Ayoko na i-share yung mga samples. Ahaha. Bsta, pakwento na lng kayo samen. Yey, at last, North Avenue! It was RADIO VERITAS. We came in and felt intimidation while going up the stairs. First, we looked at the crowd... Guess what, ages ranged from older than our age to much older than our age. Hehe. Peace out! I remember what JP said before we go to the place, "Tugtugin natin Mr. Clay!" Kami naman, "Cge, kaso bka wala makarelate..." "Meron yan..." sabi nya. So there, having to see the crowd... Mr.Clay was definitely vanquished from the playlist. Eto pa ang astig... Drum set seems to be invisible, yes it is out of sight. And the bass guitar, it's really a bass (yung pang orchestra). The setup was not what we expected but what the heck, let the show begin. We performed El Bimbo, Jeepney and She will be loved. Pucha ang hirap ng dipindot na drums. Ahaha. We thought our performance was not great but it wasn't bad either. After that we had a little trip around the radio station. Ang galing! So, the show was over and time for my bandmates and I to head back to Taft. Before aboarding MRT, we received a message from JP saying that we're gonna receive some amount for our performance. Yes, now it's really the first official gig of the band coz we got paid. Yahoo!
During the trip back to taft, our imagination got wilder, enhancing the story we made up even more. Ehehe... Laugh trip to the max!
The whole experience was fun. We greatly appreciate the opportunity given to us by JP's father. It was really a great exposure for the band. A lot of thanks to them! Cheers! Vacation here we come!
